Vineyard Region: Tasmania
Wine Analysis: Alc/Vol: 13.5%
Colour: Deep crimson red.
Aroma: A robust style of Pinot Noir showing ripe dark berry fruits and spice with hints of cedar from the quality French oak.
Palate: The wine displays a sublime concentration, elegance and length.
Peak Drinking: Until 2029

Recommended food pairings: A Pinot Noir with this class and distinction screams out for quality food accompaniments. Try it with a slow cooked lamb shoulder with a rich red wine jus and serve with roasted beetroots and baby carrots. Or why not try it with a selection of wash rind cheese and nut bread.

Growing Conditions: The Hazards vineyard produces wines of depth and intensity with a powerful colour and flavour. This vintage will go down as one of the best in recent memory. A wet spring filling the dams and a dry and warm growing season leading to great colour and fruit intensity.

Winemaking notes: The fruit was cold soaked and plunged twice a day until ferment was started. This was done with partial whole bunches. Hand plunged in open top fermenters, and up to 4 times a day in the middle part of the ferment. Ferment temperatures around 30ºC. Basket pressed and settled for 48 hours then transferred to French oak of which 16% was new. It was bottled with an alcohol of 13.5%.

Critics’ tasting notes

  1. “Hazards Vineyard, East Coast; 34% whole bunches; fermented in 16% new French oak barrels. The exotic exuberance of whole bunches changes the game for Hazards Vineyard pinot noir, filling it with Campari, burnt orange rind and orange bitters. It will appreciate time for this flamboyance to settle down, making space for its spicy berry fruits to assume their rightful position. It holds the fine-grained tannins, bright acidity and undeterred persistence to go the distance.”
