Made from 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Syrah, the Devil’s Corner Mt Dove  2020  is deep magenta in colour, combining a rich and concentrate palate with vibrant aromas of pink peppercorn, bright berries and green olives.

The wines in the Hazards range are rugged yet refined; named after the remarkable Hazards Mountains that serve as backdrop to our East Coast vineyard.

Vineyard Region: Tasmania
Wine Analysis: Alc/Vol: 13%
Colour: Deep magenta
Aroma: Aromas of pink peppercorn, bright berries and green olives
Palate:  A rich and concentrate palate
Peak Drinking: Until 2026

Recommended food pairings: This blend of Pinot Noir and Syrah is a perfect opportunity to experience an incredible wine and food combination. Try it with a rare pan seared wagu eye fillet that is lightly seasoned with finely ground black pepper and salt flakes. Or why not try it with an aged Tasmanian cheddar cheese and lavosh.

Growing Conditions: A challenging vintage due to a cool and wet fruit set at the back end of 2019. This lead to low yields across all varieties. The small compact bunches delivered powerful flavours and richness. Grapes were harvested from April to mid-May 2020. The Hazards vineyard produces wines of depth and intensity with a powerful colour and flavour.

Winemaking notes: Fruit was destemmed and left to cold soak for several days prior to ferment. Ferments are run up to 30 degrees and pump overs carried out up to four times per day.  Malolactic fermentation happened in barrels over Spring.  We used 100% French oak, with 21% new. It was bottled with an alcohol of 13%. Vegan-friendly.

“70/30% pinot noir/syrah; 24% whole bunches; matured in 21% new French oak barrels. The pinot/syrah blend is seeing a quiet renaissance among top producers across Australia’s cooler zones, and is an exciting new direction for Devil’s Corner. The fine-ground pepper and powder-fine tannins of Derwent Valley syrah mesh seamlessly with a red cherry core of Hazards Vineyard pinot noir. Whole bunches and oak have been fine-tuned to let vibrant acidity and those crafted tannins draw out a long finish. Patience.”
